Moonbug Designs is a company based out of Eugene, Oregon providing children's furnishings with a strong commitment to health and environmental sustainability. Our goal is to provide customers with high quality, environmentally-friendly furniture, helping you with your goal to provide a safe and beautiful home or office. We believe every child deserves the safest environment one can provide. A healthy environment is crucial in keeping childhood allergies and chemical sensitivities at bay. Our products are constructed of solid parawood and hand painted with a natural non-toxic, non-voc paint, then sealed with a non-toxic sealant for easy cleanup. We feel solid wood furniture is the best choice, not only for its durability, but furniture made from pressed wood often contains adhesives that can emit formaldehyde and other VOC's. To make a childs space as safe and environmentally-friendly as possible it is important to make use of non-toxic finishes and furnishings and avoid products that contribute to indoor air pollution.
Milk Paint: Completly natural paints made from milk protiens, lime and natural mineral pigments. Milk paint us entirely biodegradable, with no voc's, HAP's or EPA-excempt solvents added. Milk paint produces an authentic and beautiful vintage look. It has its own personality. which is one of the beauties of this paint, it dries how it wants to look. Temperature, humidity, the water content of the wood as well as the type of wood will determine how the finish turns out. Even the temperature of the water used to mix the paint will change its final appearance.
Parawood (or Rubberwood): A very dense, solid hardwood used for the production of high-end furniture. The rubbertree is also the world's primary source of natural rubber. Latex is tapped much like syrup from a maple tree, after 25-30 years of latex production trees cease to produce adequate amounts of latex and trees are removed to make room for new ones. The furniture industry has made use of trees that were previously cut down, burned and destroyed as a byproduct. The full cycle of this farmed wood involves no waste making it highly prized for being an environmentally friendly option. Parawood is resistant to fungus, bacteria and mold making it an even safer choice.
